Getting the shot

Having taken over 50,000 photos in the last 2 years with my trusty Nikon d90, I can tell you from experience that some of the best shots I’ve ever taken were out in the field. Not that I have anything against studio photography (controlled lighting, mood music, air conditioning, catered food), but there is just something organic and spontaneous about going out into the wild. You have that element of the unexpected and you can almost certainly count on bad, but sometimes really great, surprises!

I think all photographers should get out more often, mix it up, break free from the “safe bet” studio photography and take the risk of seagulls pooping on your lens, cutting your photo shoot short due to rain, almost falling into a lake, and having to clean dust and sand from your camera….and yes, these are all true stories. As the title says, “Sometimes you have to go off the beaten path to get the perfect shot”
